Malus domestica – Bramley’s Apple tree 6-8cm girth bare root
One of the most popular cooking apples owing to its very large crops of extra large fruit. Bramley’s Apple tree available online!
This deciduous tree has green leaves that hold throughout spring, autumn and winter and pink flowers that appear in spring.
Apples follow the flowers, these apples have a creamy, flavourful flesh and yellow/green and slightly red striped skin.
The apples can be used between November and February. Once they are ready to harvest, store in a cool, dry place until March.
Bramley apple is a triploid, so you will need two other pollinators from the same pollination group.
We recommend Malus ‘James Grieve’ and Malus ‘Granny Smith’ as pollination partners for this tree.
If you live in a suburban area, you may find there are sufficient compatible trees in neighbouring gardens.
Grown on MM106 rootstock to produce a strong tree, Bramley apple reaches a mature height of 5-6m and a mature spread of 4-5m.
It is a very vigorous tree, and we would not recommend planting in small gardens.
If you are not planting the bare root tree immediately, store it in a cool, frost free shed or garage away from the sun or drying winds.
When planting, make sure that you heel the tree in tight to obtain good root/soil contact. You should also stake the tree to provide stability.
Bare root fruit trees are available to buy from November to March each year whilst the trees are dormant.
