Ginkgo biloba – Maidenhair tree 8-10cm girth
Ginkgo biloba is a deciduous tree with an upright, conical habit that spreads and becomes irregular when fully mature. Maidenhair tree available online!
Ginkgo has a greyish brown bark that becomes deeply cracked with age and unique fan-shaped, two-lobed leaves.
These leaves emerge as a fresh green in spring and turn to a stunning golden-yellow in autumn.
The Maidenhair tree is dioecious, which means that it is either male or female.
When the Ginkgo is 25-30 years old, it begins to flower and produce fruit. When the flowers finally emerge, they appear unremarkable.
On male trees they appear as short green catkins, and on female trees, they appear as small, green stalks.
After pollination by the wind, yellow fruits will then appear on the female trees in autumn.
