The majority of native hedge planting is done using bare rooted plants that are field grown and lifted when dormant for transplanting.  This method provided huge cost savings and is very successful when installed correctly.

Typical bare root plants are quickthorn or hawthorn, Dogwood. dogrose, hazel , buckthorn , euonymus , guelder rose, blackthorn , spindleberry and wayfaring. Different mixes of these can be included depending on location , soil and aspect. The season for planting native bare root is from November through to March. In countryside location these hedge plants will require protection from predators.
