Ginkgo biloba (Maidenhair Tree)

Ginkgo biloba is a very unusual tree and not a common sight. It has a tall and narrow conical shape when young becoming more irregular with age.  The upright nature means it can be planted as a specimen tree in most size gardens.

It has unique fan shaped, mid green leaves which turning golden yellow in the autumn. This leaf shape gives rise to the common name of Mauden hair trees. The female tree will produce large nuts (when the tree reaches 20 years plus), herbal extracts of which have had medicinal uses for centuries.

This is the only tree in its genus and fossils have been found dating back to the time of the dinosaurs.

A great tree if you like somthing a bit different which will cope with any soil and conditions.
