You are making a significant investment when purchasing your trees and hedging from us and we are keen to provide you with all the information you require to make sure your trees continue to thrive.
Planting
We will be pleased to provide a quotation to local customers which will cover the complete installation of your trees and plants. However, if you do not require our planting service, we are happy to advise you on the correct installation methods and ongoing maintenance. Correct staking to hold your tree/s in position until they are established is very important. Pointed stakes can be driven through the root-ball with care so that the stem is nice and tight to the stem once the rubber tree tie has been installed. We recommend round, peeled and pressure treated stakes together with a buckle type tree tie which has a collar incorporated to prevent rubbing on the tree stem – larger trees will require double staking.
Protection from predators should also be considered prior to planting. Deer protection comes in the form of a special mesh guard that we have designed. It is easy to fix and very effective. Rabbit damage can be prevented by the provision of a spiral guard that is wrapped around the stem to discourage predation.
Once the installation is completed, it is time to consider aftercare. Irrigation will be required throughout the first one of two growing seasons while the tree transitions from the Nursery to the wider environment. The amount of water required will vary between species – we will be happy to advise you. A slow release fertiliser, high in nitrogen, will be helpful if applied during the spring. Mulching is an excellent method of promoting extra growth as it stops competition from weeds and traps moisture to enable early establishment.
