Hawthorn – Complete Hedging Pack – 25m
Crataegus monogyna is a fast-growing, deciduous, native tree with a rounded habit. It has deeply lobed green leaves that turn to shades of yellow, flat clusters of fragrant creamy white flowers in spring and dark red berries in autumn. Reaching a mature height of 4-8m and growing in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-draining soil, this tree can be clipped to form a low hedge or left to grow as a taller field boundary. Much loved by wildlife, its dense nature and sharp thorns make it a good defensive barrier, ideal for keeping any intruders out. This hedging pack contains 125 plants, 125 spiral guards 125 bamboo canes for 25m of hedging, we calculate this based on 5 plants being used per metre in a single staggered row.
Bare Root plants are available from early November to late March. We can take Pre-orders before this time and dispatch the plants as soon as they are available.

How to plant your Bare Root hedging pack
1 – If you don’t intend to set the hedge immediately upon arrival, store the plants in a cool, frost free shed or garage.
2 – When planting out, do not remove the hedging plants from the box or bag. Exposure to sun or drying winds may lead to root desiccation and eventual failure.
3 – Do not dig huge planting pits that require laborious backfilling. If the soil is reasonably good, use the notch planting technique. Push your spade 4-6” into the ground, open up a wide slit and place the root in at the nursery soil mark.
4 – Be sure to ‘heel in’ very tight. This is most important to ensure good root/soil contact. After heeling in, you should have to tug the plant quite hard to remove it.
5 – After completion of planting, mulch the hedge with either; plastic, woodchips or similar to trap moisture in, and prevent growth of weed competition.
