Turkish Hazel (Corylus colurna)
Corylus colurna or Turkish hazel is a large, regularly shaped, conical tree with large oval green leaves up to 12cms in length which turn yellow in the autumn. At the end of winter, it produces pendulous, yellow catkins 8-10cms in length. It has highly-decorative corky bark which adds interest through the winter months. The large edible nuts are partly encased in husks and are 2cm across.
This tree would make a great choice for a larger garden or park and is also suitable for avenues and streets.
