Swamp Cypress (Taxodium distichum)

Taxodium distichum or Swamp Cypress is a large, conical shaped, deciduous conifer. The leaves are soft, light green needles that emerge quite late in spring and turn a lovely russet-brown before falling in autumn.

The brown bark on the trunk is very fibrous and twisted the younger twig and branch growth is green. Swamp Cypress produce small round cones which emerge purple.

Swamp Cypress ,as its name suggests, is a good choice for wetter areas and can even cope with periods of flooding once established.

This is a great tree for larger gardens and parkland where the soil is wet or in waterside areas prone to flooding.

Grows in all moist soils to 18-25m tall.
