Quince trees (Cydonia oblonga)
Quince trees are a more unusual fruit tree option and also make a great ornamental variety as well. Large, pink flushed, white flowers appear in spring followed by the fruits which are ready to pick by October.
Both the flowers and fruit are fragrant.
The leaves are green and are held on the rounded spreading crown until turning yellow and falling in autumn.
These trees are grown on Quince A root stock reaching approx. 5m when mature.
The fruits are bell shaped, rather like a fat pear, they are yellow in colour with a fine fluffy ‘down’ over the skin. The fruits need to be cooked and can be used in jams, apple pies and tagines to enhance flavours and aromas.
Great trees for most garden sizes.
