Pine trees are nearly all evergreen and can be planted to create forest woodland for sustainable softwood timber production or singularly as specimen trees.
In the UK, two of the most notable trees are Pinus Sylvestris (Scots Pine) and Pinus Nigra (Austrian Pine). Austrian Pine is native to northern Europe, widely planted in this country and is a useful screening tree as well as a valuable component of any shelter belt planting scheme. It can be described as a very tough, durable and a relatively rapid growing tree. Here at King & Co, they are available up to 3 metres in height.
In the past, Pinus Sylvestris has been planted for timber production in the UK. However, many notable gardens that are now mature, have Scots Pine planted as a specimen tree, mainly due to being the only pine native to the UK. This tree is capable of attaining 30 metres height and is renowned for its golden brown bark which occurs as it ages. It can be described as a very hardy tree that is known for its ability to thrive in most well drained soils, particularly liking full sun and is a relatively quick grower. Here in the nursery at King & Co, Scots Pine is available up to 3 metres tall.
