Oak Trees (Quercus)

There are many, many different types of Oak trees available around the world. The common or English Oak is the one that we are all familiar with in the UK. English Oak (Quercus Robur) is available in the nursery from around 3-5m in height. Oak is valued for its longevity which can run into several centuries.  It is a very large tree when mature, which also supports a particularly wide habitat including insects, birds and mammals. Oak is one of the most important trees in the UK home grown timber industry, particularly in construction.  Due to its eventual size Quercus Robur is not suitable for a small garden, although we often provide specimen trees for memorial purposes.

The three other types of Oak we grow are Quercus Ilex (Holm Oak), Quercus Palustris (Pin Oak) and Quercus Rubra (Americana red Oak. Quercus Ilex is a valuable evergreen tree widely planted in traditional English gardens and estates. Also planted to form a great all year-round hedge screen. Bother Quercus Paulstris and Quercus Rubra are American red oaks with different leaf shapes, but both are valued for the blaze of autumn colour they produce.  Both trees make valuable amenity trees in garden, parks and estates.
