Nordman Fir Trees - (Abies)

Abies nordmanniana or Nordman Fir is one of the most popular fir trees with a symmetrically shaped broad pyramidal crown with evenly spaced, densely leaved branches that grow horizontally. The narrow leaves or ‘needles’ are yellow/green when young which contrast well with the darker green older leaves. In autumn striking upright green cones appear which later change to brown. Bark is grey and smooth developing grooves and turning brown with maturity. Good in most soils including clay soil and tolerates windy sites.
Although used as a tree for decorating at Christmas, this is a very versatile tree and can make an attractive stand-alone specimen, a screening tree or as a wind break in larger sites when planted in multiples.
