Handkerchief or Dove Tree (Davidia involucrata)
Davidia involucrata is a large deciduous tree with heart shaped green leaves. Mature trees bear large white bracts around the small round flowers resembling a handkerchief hanging in the tree and make a Davidia in full bloom an impressive sight and also giving the tree the common name of handkerchief tree or Dove tree.
The bracts are dissimilar in shape and size, the largest measure approximately 15cm. The nut-like fruit hangs singly on long stems.
This very pretty tree is suitable for parks and large gardens and best suited to sheltered sunny sites. The Davidia is available to purchase from our website and can be viewed at our nursery in Essex.
