We were delighted to plant a 4-metre Monkey Puzzle tree for one of our returning customers this week.
Planting the Monkey Puzzle
The Monkey Puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana) is native to Chile in South America, and is often used in garden designs as a specimen tree. Monkey puzzle trees are capable of growing to up to 30 metres in height. The tree is notorious for its razor sharp scale shaped leaves, making safe handling a challenge!
The tree planting team took care in excavating the planting pit to accommodate the huge rootball of the tree, installing an anchor system. The anchoring system holds the Monkey Puzzle tree in place whilst not distracting from the shape of the tree where a staking system may do so.
On site, we also installed a Photinia hedge using our 1.5-1.75m tall Photinia hedging plants. For irrigation, we laid Porous Pipe through the hedge at ground level to aid watering. The evergreen hedge plants will form a dense hedge and frame the post and rail fence in no time. The Photinia hedge was planted with premium topsoil to aid drainage as the garden soil contained very heavy clay.
