It must be quite apparent to anyone driving in southern England just how many trees have been unable to survive the drought conditions.
Particularly badly affected are Silver birch,(Betula Pendula). Hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus) have also suffered significant losses. However, it is the new plantings of Autumn 2017 and Spring 2018 that have fared the worst. Some estimates have put losses due to desiccation as high as 60%. This could have a significant affect on the forthcoming planting season, as specifiers seek replacements from nurseries. The extra demand is sure to create shortages and it will be prudent to reserve your stock at the earliest opportunity.
