Laurels are renowned for their hardiness and density when considering using them as hedging plants.
Laurels are also used as a privacy tree, using its dense, rapid growing foliage to screen windows and other unsightly views from a garden. Laurels will thrive in nearly all conditions and can be planted a slightly larger spacings when compared to Photinia Red Robin or Ligustrum (Privet) trees due to their rapid growth rate.
Grown as a screening tree the traditional hedge has plant has been grown into a standard tree – meaning less garden real estate has been consumed by your ‘hedge on legs’ as opposed to planting a tall laurel hedge. It is even possible to underplant your new laurel privacy hedge with shrubs to add more colour and seasonal interest in your garden.
