Pinus wallichiana - Bhutan Pine tree 2-2.5m tall
Pinus wallichiana is a large evergreen pine with a conical shape when young which broadens when mature. It is prized for its ornamental foliage of pendulous, grey-green, soft needle like leaves which reach 10-20cm long. The young stem growth is smooth and quite grey and ages to a scaly dark brown. Produces cones 10-20cm long which hang from the branches. Will grow in all free draining soils but avoid waterlogged or very chalky soils.
Grows to 20m tall.
Because of their eventual height Pinus wallichiana is best suited to larger gardens or parkland where they have space to grow to full size trees.
