A guide to Japanese Maples

Japanese Maple trees provide stunning colour and vibrancy to any garden, particularly shades of red, orange and even gold in the Autumn time.

Coupled with low maintenance, allows for a specialist garden space without hours of work. Japanese Maples are ideal for shaded areas, and will not take up a great deal of space.

Acer Palmatum

The leaves of the Acer Palmatum are lobed and mid-green during the Summer months, which become vibrant shades of yellow, orange and red before they drop in Autumn. This Maple will grow to a small or medium tree which is ideal for small spaces. This Acer is available in tree form and can be delivered next working day if ordered before 10am, subject to availability and delivery terms.

Acer Palmatum Sango – Kaku

This Coral-bark Maple holds coral-red young branches which turn darker through winter. In spring 5-lobed leaves appear which open pinkish/yellow, becoming green in summer and yellow in autumn. This will grow to a large shrub or small tree making a great feature plant with the mass of coloured stems. Very small reddish flowers appear in spring. This Acer Palmatum Sango-Kaku would work well as a feature in a pot or grown in a mixed border.

Acer Palmatum Bloodgood

This Japanese Maple tree holds deep-reddish purple leaves through Spring and Summer, which fade to red and bronze in Autumn. Acer Palmatum Bloodgood will grow into a small tree and can be happily kept in a large pot, adding a sharp purple shade to any garden.
